Cinema and theatre attendance continues to rise
| For the past thirty years, people have regularly been asked about what happened in their lives the previous year. This way information is available about how participation in cultural events, social engagement, types of leisure activities and behaviour connected with attitude to money are all changing.
| In comparison with last year, audiences for the performing arts have increased: considerably more people than in the previous year went to the cinema in 2018 (56%, a rise of 7 percentage points) and somewhat more went to the theatre (24%, a rise of two points). This continues the upward trend visible since 2016. It is also the first time that the number of people participating in one of the researched cultural activities has exceeded 50%. Last year also saw a three-fold increase in theatre attendance compared to the low point of 1993, with almost one person in four going to the theatre at least once in 2018.
