Social Moods Annual Review

To investigate social moods the CBOS uses indicators such as: assessment of current political and economic situation, forecasts for these aspects as well as opinions on economic situation of respondents’ workplaces and quality of living in their households.
In 2014 assessment of private sphere i.e. respondents’ material conditions and workplace situation, was much better than the public one. Scores of both indicators were around 0.4-0.6. However, while opinions on living conditions were the best during summer holidays, opinions on workplace situation seemed to be improving throughout that period (with few exceptions). In the last twelve months opinions on economic situation changed from rather negative to neutral. Moreover at the end of 2014 opinions on political situation also improved - although criticism was still prevalent assessment of that sphere was better than at the beginning of that year and before wiretapping scandal.
The forecasts for the near future were less diverse than assessment of an existing situation in consecutive months of 2014. Although mostly in forecasts for all researched areas interviewees did not expect any changes, hopes for improvement were again expressed more often in regards to private matters that the public ones.
The data comes from the surveys “Current Problems and Events” conducted in 2014.
