Social Mood: Annual Summary
Indicators of social mood used in our research include evaluations of and forecasts for Poland’s economy and politics, respondents’ workplaces and their own household finances.
As in previous years, so in 2017, respondents’ evaluation of the private sphere was decidedly better than of the public. The condition of both households and workplaces was seen over the past year to have been fairly good, with only slight variations in value of these indicators.
When it came to assessment of the economic and political situation, an upward trend could be observed over the course of the year. However, despite this improvement, the political situation in Poland was still more likely to be assessed negatively than positively. In comparison, the economy was rated very markedly better.

As in previous years, in 2017 there was less differentiation in forecasts for the immediate future than in assessments of the current situation. Respondents were most pessimistic about how the political situation would unfold and, throughout the whole year, the majority expected this to get worse rather than better. With regard to the remaining areas (the economy, household finances and workplaces) there was more optimism, albeit rather guarded.
