Cultural Activities in the Past Year

In 2024 more people engaged in cultural activities than in the previous year: the percentage of Poles who went to the theatre, to an exhibition, museum or art gallery at least once, rose by five points. The proportion of those who went to an art gallery or museum exceeded a third (37%), while visits to the theatre (at 27%) achieved the highest point since CBOS records began.
Similarly, visits to the cinema rose by four percentage points over the previous year, with 53% of respondents saying they had been at least once. Listening to live music had already significantly increased last year (by 8 percentage points) and continued to maintain this high level. In fact, more people (41%) said they had been at a concert than to an exhibition or theatre show.

More on this subject in the CBOS report, and on Polish people’s civic activity, holidays, leisure activities and finances last year.
This ‘Current Events and Problems’ survey (417) was conducted using a mixed-mode procedure on a representative sample of named adult residents of Poland, randomly selected from the National Identity Number (PESEL) register. Respondents independently selected one of the following methods:Computer Assisted Personal Interview (CAPI); Computer Assisted Telephone Interview (CATI), respondents receiving researchers’ telephone numbers in an introductory letter from CBOS; Computer Assisted Web Interview (CAWI), where respondents filled in the online questionnaire independently, gaining access by means of a login and password provided in an introductory letter from CBOS. In all three cases the questionnaire had the same structure and comprised the same questions. The survey was carried out between 9 – 19 January 2025 inclusive on a sample of 972 people (59.8% using the CAPI method, 21.9% CATI and 18.3% CAWI). CBOS has been conducting statutory research using the above procedure since May 2020, stating in each case the percentage of personal, telephone and internet interviews.
