15 Years of Polish Membership in NATO
Since 12 March 1999 Poland has been a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO). The vast majority of Poles believes that accession to NATO was an important event for Poland – over a quarter think that it was a turning point in our history and almost a half describe it as an important but not crucial event.
For the last fifteen years membership of Poland in the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation has been supported by majority of Poles (at present 62%). Half of interviewees (50%) consider membership in NATO as a guarantee of independence. Majority (51%) believes that it will guard peace and safety in Poland.
More on that issue can be found in the CBOS report in Polish: ”15th Anniversary of NATO Membership”.
The data comes from the survey “Current Problems and Events” conducted from 6 to 12 February 2014.
