Free Transport to Polling Stations

On the 13th of March President Andrzej Duda signed an amendment to the electoral code. This requires the provision of free transport to polling stations for the elderly, people with disabilities and residents of rural areas where the nearest public transport stop is at a distance of at least 1.5 km from the polling station. This measure is supported by 70% of those surveyed, with 24% against.

Those in favour of the measure are in the majority in all social and demographic groups. The measure has particular support among the less educated and the less well off (84% of those with primary or basic secondary education, 80% of those with basic vocational training, 87% of those with a per capita income of less than 1500 zloty per month), also those aged 55-65 (78%) or older (75%), and people living in the country (75%) and in small towns (74%).
More on this subject in the CBOS report.
This ‘Current Events and Problems’ survey (395) was conducted using a mixed-mode procedure on a representative sample of named adult residents of Poland, randomly selected from the National Identity Number (PESEL) register. Respondents independently selected one of the following methods: Computer Assisted Personal Interview (CAPI); Computer Assisted Telephone Interview (CATI), respondents receiving researchers’ telephone numbers in an introductory letter from CBOS; Computer Assisted Web Interview (CAWI), where respondents filled in the online questionnaire independently, gaining access by means of a login and password provided in an introductory letter from CBOS. The survey was carried out between 6 –16 March 2023 inclusive on a sample of 993 people (58% using the CAPI method, 24.6% CATI and 17.4% CAWI). CBOS has been conducting statutory research using the above procedure since May 2020, stating in each case the percentage of personal, telephone and internet interviews.
