Was it Worth Changing the Political System? The Changes Begun in 1989 Assessed
Coming up to the thirtieth anniversary of the partially free elections of 4 June 1989, over four fifths of the people surveyed (81%) thought that it was worth changing the political system then. The majority were very sure about this.
Current assessments of the social consequences of the transformation are the most positive yet. Over two thirds of the people asked (68%) say that the changes that have taken place in Poland since 1989 have brought people more gains than losses, and 8% of these see only gains. Only one in twenty (5%) is of the opinion that the transformation brought people more losses than gains, of whom a scant 0.3% see only losses. Every tenth respondent was unable to assess the social consequences of the transformation.
