Internet Use Is on the up

Over three quarters of the adults surveyed (77%) say they use the internet regularly, an increase of four percentage points on last year. Over the two years of the coronavirus pandemic the increase has been nine points.

Presence online is strongly correlated with age. Internet use is universal among people under 35, and almost so among respondents aged 35–44. An overwhelming majority of those aged 45–54 also belong to this group, as do two thirds of 55–64-year-olds. Among older people internet users are a minority: two fifths of those aged 65–74 and about one fifth of the very eldest. The biggest growth in internet use on last year has been in the 45–54 age group (a jump of ten percentage points) and with the over-75s (up nine points).

More on this subject in the CBOS report.
This ‘Current Events and Problems’ survey (385) was conducted using a mixed-mode procedure on a representative sample of named adult residents of Poland, randomly selected from the National Identity Number (PESEL) register. Respondents independently selected one of the following methods: Computer Assisted Personal Interview (CAPI); Computer Assisted Telephone Interview (CATI), respondents receiving researchers’ telephone numbers in an introductory letter from CBOS; Computer Assisted Web Interview (CAWI), where respondents filled in the online questionnaire independently, gaining access by means of a login and password provided in an introductory letter from CBOS. In all three cases the questionnaire had the same structure and comprised the same questions. The survey was carried out between 2 and 12 May 2022 inclusive on a sample of 1087 people (58.9% using the CAPI method, 28.7% CATI and 12.4% CAWI). CBOS has been conducting statutory research using the above procedure since May 2020, stating in each case the percentage of personal, telephone and internet interviews.
