Raising the 500+ Child Benefit

Polish people are divided on the subject of raising the 500+ child benefit to 800 zloty: 50% of those asked supported the idea, while 46% were against. The remaining 4% had no opinion on the subject. Worth noticing is that those who supported the raise more often did so cautiously (‘Somewhat in favour’ – 27%) than wholeheartedly (‘Definitely in favour’ – 23%), whereas among those not supporting it there were more decided opponents (27%) than moderate ones (19%).

A majority of respondents with right-wing views were in favour of increasing support for families in this way (69%), while people who identified with the political left or centre were more likely not to support the idea (63% and 55% respectively).
More on this subject in the CBOS report.
This ‘Current Events and Problems’ survey (398) was conducted using a mixed-mode procedure on a representative sample of named adult residents of Poland, randomly selected from the National Identity Number (PESEL) register. Respondents independently selected one of the following methods: Computer Assisted Personal Interview (CAPI); Computer Assisted Telephone Interview (CATI), respondents receiving researchers’ telephone numbers in an introductory letter from CBOS; Computer Assisted Web Interview (CAWI), where respondents filled in the online questionnaire independently, gaining access by means of a login and password provided in an introductory letter from CBOS. The survey was carried out between 5–18 June 2023 inclusive on a sample of 1054 people (59.3% using the CAPI method, 25.8% CATI and 14.9% CAWI). CBOS has been conducting statutory research using the above procedure since May 2020, stating in each case the percentage of personal, telephone and internet interviews.
