Social Moods Quarterly Review

To investigate social moods CBOS uses such indicators as: an assessment of the current political and economic situation, forecasts for these aspects as well as opinions on the economic situation of respondents’ workplaces and the quality of living in their households. In order to illustrate the dynamism of changes, quarterly balances are presented against a background of the previous months.
In the second quarter, similarly to the previous months, assessment of the private sphere was much better than the public one. The worst is still the evaluation of the political situation in the country and in the last three months we noticed a further decline in assessment of that sphere. At the beginning of the second quarter (in April) opinions on economic and workplace situation improved, while in the following months they did not change much. In the last three months assessment of people’s material conditions remained stable.

In the second quarter optimism in forecasts for the public sphere increased. Regardless of worsening opinions of the current political situation, improvement in its forecasts for the coming year was noted. At the beginning of this quarter negative opinions overweighed positive ones in regards of forecasts for the political situation, however, at the end of the quarter, positive opinions prevailed. At the beginning of the second quarter an improvement in forecasts for the economic situation was also noted. However, forecasts for the private sphere (workplace situation and people’s material conditions) remained rather stable in the last three months.
