What Do We Look for When Buying Eggs?

Since 2006 there has been a three-fold increase in the importance to people of whether eggs come from caged hens or not (from 13% to 35%); at the same time there has been a drop of over a half in people who look for low-priced eggs (from 27% to 11%). The percentage of people who look at size when buying eggs is also systematically shrinking.
This year’s survey shows that people most frequently take into consideration the conditions that hens are kept in (35%), and they look at the use-by date just a little less often (32%). Considerably less important are size (18%), egg marking and compliance with EU standards (12%) and a low price (11%).

People’s approach to buying eggs is one of the factors reflecting their attitude to animals.
More on this subject in the CBOS report.
The above data comes from ‘Current Events and Problems’ surveys carried out in 2006, 2013 and 2018.
