Public Support for Children to Go Back to School

The decided majority of people in Poland (80%) support the government decision that children should go back to school. In households with school-age children this rises to 83%. Only 14% of those surveyed think it is a mistake.

The feeling that the government has taken the right decision predominates in all social and demographic groups. The most people against the idea of children returning to school can be found among the under-25s, and among school and college students in particular (41%).
The reopening of schools has been met with approval by the electorates of all the main political formations. This approval is most clear-cut among Law and Justice voters (90%) and lowest among supporters of the Left (64%).

This ‘Current Events and Problems’ survey (363) was conducted using a mixed-mode procedure on a representative sample of named adult residents of Poland, randomly selected from the National Identity Number (PESEL) register.
Respondents independently selected one of the following methods:
– Computer Assisted Personal Interview (CAPI);
– Computer Assisted Telephone Interview (CATI), respondents receiving researchers’ telephone numbers in an introductory letter from CBOS;
– Computer Assisted Web Interview (CAWI), where respondents filled in the online questionnaire independently, gaining access by means of a login and password provided in an introductory letter from CBOS.
In all three cases the questionnaire had the same structure and comprised the same questions. The survey was carried out between 7 and 17 September 2020 inclusive on a sample of 1149 people (68% using the CAPI method, 20.1% CATI and 11.9% CAWI).
