Do Polish People Waste Food?

One in four people admit that in their household food has been thrown away within the last seven days. Figures show that people in top jobs and school or university students are more likely to throw food away than older people, especially those who think their financial situation is poor.

One way of avoiding food waste is, before going on holiday, to give the contents of your fridge to someone you know. However, most households in Poland do not do this; almost two thirds (61%) of respondents openly say that they never give away their perishable food before going on holiday, while 12% do it rarely. It is possible that some people take their perishables with them or buy only as much as they need before they go away, although it certainly is not easy to do this.
More on this subject in the CBOS report.
The above data comes from the ‘Current Events and Problems’ survey of 30 June – 7 July 2016.
