To investigate social moods CBOS uses such indicators as: an assessment of the current political and economic situation, forecasts for these aspects as well as opinions on the economic situation of respondents’ workplaces and the quality of living in their households. In order to illustrate the dynamism of changes, quarterly balances are presented against a background of the previous months.

In the last quarter, similarly to the previous months, the assessment of the private sphere was much better than the public one. Still, the worst is the evaluation of the political situation in the country. Regardless of slight fluctuations, criticism regarding that issue has been stable for quite a long time. On the other hand, in recent months a small decrease in negative opinions on the economic situation has been noted, however, mean values on the 5-point scale from –2 to +2 have remained negative. In regards of workplace situation and people’s own material conditions positive values of means were recorded, which illustrate dominance of positive opinions over negative ones. The last quarter data suggest improvement in the assessment of these aspects of respondents’ lives .

In September a significant deterioration of the quite stable forecasts for political situation was noted. For several months, smaller, however more systematic, rise in pessimism regarding forecasts for the economic situation can be noticed. On the other hand, the end of the third quarter brought considerable rise in optimism in forecasts for respondents’ workplace situation and material conditions of their households.
