After the Election
According to the official results announced by the National Electoral Commission (PKW) the election was won by PiS – the Law and Justice (37,58%) ahead of: PO – the Civic Platform (24,09%), the Electoral Committee Kukiz’15 (8,81%), Nowoczesna – the Modern (7,60%), Zjednoczona Lewica (ZL) – the United Left (7,55%), PSL – the Polish People’s Party (5,13%), the Electoral Committee KORWiN (4,76%) and Partia Razem – the Together Party (3,62%).
Our interviewees’ pre-election declarations of support for the major six political parties (PiS, Kukiz’15, Nowoczesna, ZL, PSL and KORWiN) were close to the official results.
PO’s performance was slightly worse than in our survey. It may be a result of political correctness (interviewees’ declarations may be biased in favour of the party in power) or less convincing end of the pre-election campaign of this party. It is believed that the least known the Together Party gained credit during the second TV debate. Our survey was conducted mainly before the TV debates and could not capture its influence on political parties’ preferences.
