Attitudes to Disabled People
Over half of those polled think that most people in this country have a good attitude towards disabled people, one third is of the opposite view, while only a very few do not have an opinion on this subject.
Opinions on this subject depend to a large extent on how much respondents actually have to do with disabled people: the closer they are to somebody disabled, the more critical their assessment. Those who do not know any disabled person are more likely to believe that the majority of people in this country have a good attitude towards them (68% believe it is good, 22% that it is bad). Among disabled people themselves opinions are rather divided; although over half (53%) believe the attitude is good, over two-fifths (44%) think it is inappropriate.
