Social Moods Annual Review

To investigate social moods CBOS uses such indicators as: an assessment of the current political and economic situation, forecasts for these aspects as well as opinions on the economic situation of respondents’ workplaces and the quality of living in their households.
In 2015, similarly to the previous year, the assessment of the private sphere was much better than the public one. Throughout the year, positive opinions on respondents’ workplace situation and their material conditions overweighed negative opinions. Since March, we have been noting a systematic improvement in the assessment of the economic situation. Although in the first few months of the year dissatisfaction with the economic situation prevailed, at the end of 2015 positive opinions on that matter were expressed more often than the negative ones.

Similarly to the previous years, forecasts for the near future were less diverse than the assessment of the existing situation and in all researched areas opinions that no changes had been expected were expressed the most often. Relatively, the most pessimistic were forecasts for the political situation. In that respect interviewees more often foresaw a worsening of the situation than its improvement for most of 2015. On the other hand, throughout the year in regards to forecasts for the private sphere an improvement was expected more often than a worsening of the situation. Since March also in forecasts for the economic situation optimism overweighed pessimism. It is worth noting that at the end of 2015, worries over the development of the political, economic and respondents’ workplace situation increased.
